To the good life
"Let us toast to animal pleasures, to escapism, to rain on the roof and instant coffee, to unemployment insurance and library cards, to absinthe and good-hearted landlords, to music and warm bodies and contraceptives... and to the ‘good life,’ whatever it is and wherever it happens to be."

Contest: Win the book Hunter – Hunter S. Thompsons vilda och sällsamma leverne
It's time for a contest. This week Vertigo Förlag releases the the Swedish translation of the book Hunter - Hunter S. Thompsons vilda och sällsamma leverne written by E. Jean Carroll and you know what, I've got 3 copies to give out to you guys.
Only E. Jean Carroll, called by The New York Times the female answer to Hunter Thompson could write a gonzo biography of the master. Carroll writes of the drug-fueled and sex-crazed time she spent living with Hunter S. Thompson. Includes dozens of interviews conducted by Carroll with his ex-wife, former lovers, long-suffering editors, drug dealers, politicians, childhood friends and hangers-on. What emerges is an intimate look at an American icon.
To enter the contest you have to write a comment on this post and tell me why you like Hunter S. Thompson. Don't forget to write your email so we can contact you if you win.
The contest is over and the winners will be contacted by mail.
If you want to buy the book you find it at kulturbutik.se.
- Last day to enter the contest is Sunday, January 30th. - The contest is unfortunately for Swedish residents only.
Breakfast at Hunter S. Thompson’s
"Breakfast is the only meal of the day that I tend to view with the same kind of traditionalized reverence that most people associate with Lunch and Dinner. I like to eat breakfast alone, and almost never before noon; anybody with a terminally jangled lifestyle needs at least one psychic anchor every twenty-four hours, and mine is breakfast. In Hong Kong, Dallas or at home — and regardless of whether or not I have been to bed — breakfast is a personal ritual that can only be properly observed alone, and in a spirit of genuine excess. The food factor should always be massive: four Bloody Marys, two grapefruits, a pot of coffee, Rangoon crepes, a half-pound of either sausage, bacon, or corned beef hash with diced chiles, a Spanish omelette or eggs Benedict, a quart of milk, a chopped lemon for random seasoning, and something like a slice of Key lime pie, two margaritas, and six lines of the best cocaine for dessert... Right, and there should also be two or three newspapers, all mail and messages, a telephone, a notebook for planning the next twenty-four hours and at least one source of good music… All of which should be dealt with outside, in the warmth of a hot sun, and preferably stone naked."

Hunter S. Thompson’s last wish
Hunters last wish was that his remains would be shot out of a canon. On August 20, 2005, in a private ceremony, Thompson's ashes were fired from a cannon atop a 47 m high tower of his own design (in the shape of a double-thumbed fist clutching a peyote button) to the tune of Norman Greenbaum's "Spirit in the Sky" and Bob Dylan's Mr. Tambourine Man. Red, white, blue, and green fireworks were launched along with his ashes. Now that's what i call a way to leave this life.
Hunter S. Thompson’s final note

At the bottom of the page Hunter had drawn a happy heart.
